Memorial Day Weekend Fun

The last Monday of May marks the beginning of summer with our 3-day weekend. As the Memorial Day Weekend initiates there are many activities we can enjoy outdoor as well as in indoor. This is a time for us not to only remember and commemorate the fallen men and women of the Armed Forces but it’s a great start for us to create our own memorable events with our loved ones.

Here in Chicago there will be many outdoor activities in the downtown area, like Bike the Drive that will take place on Sunday, May 26.  It is an annual Memorial Day weekend cycling event, which takes place right on the Lakefront as well as on Lake Shore Drive.  Lake Shore Drive will be  closed off to automobile traffic during the early morning ride. You can bike at your own pace and enjoy the skyline and beautiful Lake Michigan, while you cruise the 30-mile route with avid cycling enthusiasts and other Chicagoans.  Right out for some scenic exercise! There is a whole festival with multiple activities surrounding the event.

The Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) is an international annual electronic and dance music fest that is held in Las Vegas and in recent years at venues across the United States. Next to the Detroit Electronic Music Festival, it is one of the world’s largest celebrations of electronic music.  This year the event’s producer, Insomniac, has added a new stop in Chicago over Memorial Day Weekend being held at the Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, on May 24 – 26. But how about let’s step out our area and consider the many reasons to take a mini-vacation to our neighbor state, Wisconsin. MOLE DE MAYO FESTIVAL CELEBRATES ITS 5TH ANNIVERSARY

Two-day festival includes live entertainment on two stages, art expo & other fun offerings during Memorial Day weekend in Pilsen

Chicago, IL – Eighteenth Street Development Corporation (ESDC) presents its fifth annual Mole de Mayo, the only outdoor mole cook-off festival celebrating Latino culture and Mexican cuisine on May 25-26, 2013 in Pilsen, the heart of the Mexican community in Chicago.  This year’s back-drop will be set against the 16th Street murals painted between Halsted and Morgan.

The two-day event will include local restaurant chefs competing for one of two awards: Mole de Mayo Best Mole Award and the People’s Choice Award. As in years past, a panel of judges comprised of local celebrities will judge the participants’ moles.

Along with the traditional mole puestos (booths), the festival will have two stages of musical entertainment, which features some the best and local performers, high-flying Mexican wrestlers, and much more.Festival hours are from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26. The festival is free and open to the public.
